Who Benefits?

In 2007, 2,100 people participated in the three Sunshine Run events, generating $21,060.14  for St. John’s Burn Center, $2,226.66  for Springfield Public and Catholic Schools; $12,354.95  for the Breast Cancer Foundation of the Ozarks and $3,326.36  for the Ronald McDonald House.

The following organizations have partnered with St. John’s Foundation for Community Health to receive proceeds from the 2008 Sunshine Run.

St. John’s Burn Center

Your involvement in the 1-Mile Walk with the Gentle Giant will help burn patients receive the healthcare services at the region’s only Level 1 burn center.  Trauma and burn physicians provide 24-hour coverage and lead St. John’s burn team in providing excellent, high quality burn care for both pediatrics and adult patients.  The Burn Center treats patients from Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma and Arkansas, averaging approximately 300 inpatient admissions and 2,000 outpatient treatments every year.  Your Sunshine Run participation contributes to new advances in burn care and education opportunities.

Breast Cancer Foundation of the Ozarks

Participation in the Murney Associates 5K event benefits Breast Cancer foundation of the Ozarks.  BCFO provides recourses and support for individuals and their families in the local area who are and have been affected by breast cancer and is the only local organization that provides financial assistance for individuals with breast cancer and their families.  BCFO has provided more than 450 southwest Missouri families with thousands of dollars in assistance.

Participants indicating an affiliation with Springfield Public Schools and Springfield Catholic Schools are able to designate 25 percent of their entry fees to support school programs.
