St. John’s Fitness Center trainers are offering a comprehensive fitness program to help people prepare for this fall’s St. John’s Sunshine Run, which will take place Oct. 11 at Hammons Field in Springfield.

The 12-week program will take place at St. John’s Fitness Center, 202 E. Walnut Lawn and is designed for all levels of ability. St. John’s Sunshine Run includes a 10K run; Murney Associates 5K and KTXR 1-Mile Walk with the Gentle Giant.

Weiss said the program is designed to help participants:

  • Increase aerobic capacity, strength, endurance and flexibility

  • Increase energy

  • Learn proper techniques

  • Learn proper methods of progression and overload

  • Prevent injuries

“If you would like to learn proper running mechanics, planning and implementing a program, or would just like to take part as a family in a fun run, you will enjoy this program," said Scott Weiss, St. John’s lead fitness instructor.

The program starts July 21 and ends on event day.  Cost is $20. St. John’s co-workers and Fitness Center members receive a $5 discount. Sign-up sheets are posted at the Walnut Lawn facility. For more information, contact Scott Weiss at 417-887-9868 or scott.weiss@mercy.net.
