About Springfield
St. John’s Sunshine Run has
been a Springfield tradition since 1979. Known for beautiful race routes
that take participants from downtown through the beautiful neighborhoods of
the Phelps Grove park and University Heights area during the gorgeous fall
season, the Sunshine Run is truly an original.
People
of all ages enjoy crossing the finish line inside the impressive Hammons
Field baseball stadium, home of the Springfield
Cardinals.
Participants and spectators alike enjoy hearing the names of
people announced in the stadium as runners and walkers cross the finish
line. And who doesn’t like having themselves featured on the giant jumbo
video screen?
Families often participate together and make the event a fall tradition,
often traveling to the event to reunite with friends or family and make it
a weekend of fun for everyone. Doubletree Hotels is proud to be the
official hotel of St. John’s Sunshine Run 2008. Special rates are offered to
Sunshine Run participants in this newly remodeled, well-appointed hotel,
located at the corner of north Glenstone and east Kearney. It is located
less than two miles from the stadium and courtesy shuttles are available.
This
year’s event has double the excitement as Missouri State University
hosts its annual homecoming festivities during race weekend!
Activities are literally a walk away from Hammons Field for those interested
in joining in the
football and fun.
While
in Springfield, be sure to visit Gilardi’s, a Springfield landmark for
Italian food lovers. A short walk from Hammons Field, Gilardi’s is located
at 820 E. Walnut. Gilardi’s was featured in 417 magazine as the area’s best
Italian restaurant.
