Physical therapy address the patient’s need for rehabilitation to optimize to
functional mobility, improve musculoskeletal coordination and management of pain
and dysfunction.
PT provides:

Gait training, which is retraining to improve the quality of walking.

Muscle strengthening and coordination.

Joint range of motion/mobilization.

Balance activities for
controlled and coordinated movements.

Manual therapies, such as hands-on therapy to improve muscle and joint

Amputee Clinic
St. John’s Amputee Clinic goes
beyond measuring and fitting prosthetics. The client sees a physician
specializing in physical medicine and rehabilitation, a physical therapist, and
a prosthetist. All work together to coordinate a treatment plan to maximize the
client’s functional independence.

Wound Care Services
St. John’s Wound Care Services
specialize in the treatment of difficult-to-heal wounds. Licensed physical
therapists and physical therapy assistants work closely with physicians to
determine the most effective treatment approach.

ERGYS 2 Bike
The ERGYS 2 Rehabilitation Program uses computerized
functional electrical stimulation (CFES) to allow people with little or no
voluntary leg movement to actively pedal. St. John’s offers the ERGYS Bike to
patients in the rehabilitation program, but also for maintenance after
discharge.

Adaptive Physical Fitness Program
St. John’s has built a program
so patients can still get the benefits of the ERGYS Bike after they have been
discharged from rehabilitation. This program includes the ERGYS Bike, weights
and standing frame, all for $50 per month. Most insurance does not cover the
Adaptive Physical Fitness Program.
