Occupational therapy addresses a person’s ability to perform
basic self-care and independent living skills at their highest level of
independence. Occupational therapy in rehabilitation settings address.

needs: dressing, bathing, toileting, grooming, feeding

sitting balance, standing balance

skills: problem solving, memory, attention, judgment

living skills: cooking, cleaning, money management

rehab: range of motion, strength, sensation, electronic neuromuscular
stimulation

Outpatient specialty services that St. John’s occupational
therapists provide are driving advisements, a wheelchair clinic and burn
clinic.
Driving Program
St. John’s Occupational Therapy
performs in-clinic driving advisement specialty assessments in the outpatient
rehabilitation program.
This consists of a comprehensive evaluation for individuals
with stroke, traumatic brain injury, memory loss, and other neurological
impairments. Recommendations for equipment needs for those with spinal cord
injury, multiple sclerosis, and orthopedic implications are also available.
A driver advisement addresses the following areas:
The findings are immediate after completion of the assessment
with discretion of the referring physician.
Insurance does not cover this assessment as driving is a
privilege, not a medical necessity. The one-and-a-half to two-hour assessment
is approximately $100 (please contact us for the current cost). A physician
