Breast Care

In the U.S., one woman in eight will develop breast cancer in her lifetime.

Quality breast care saves lives.

St. John’s is committed to helping women in the Ozarks receive comprehensive, quality breast care services. Our commitment is evident by our investment in high-tech mammography equipment, in staffing St. John's Breast Center with dedicated, caring breast care professionals, and in our ongoing efforts to encourage women to get annual mammograms and to recognize the early warning signs of breast cancer.

  • St. John's radiologists are dedicated mammographers who spend 100 percent of their time on breast imaging. We also have dedicated ultrasound equipment and staff.

  • Patients benefit from our team approach to providing quality breast care. We hold weekly, multidisciplinary treatment planning conferences that allow oncologists, pathologists, radiologists and surgeons to discuss and review the best treatments options for our patients.

  • In addition to being read by a dedicated radiologist, all screening mammograms are also read by a Computer Assisted Diagnosis (CAD) unit that uses state-of-the-art technology to help screen breast tissue.

  • St. John's provides a wide range of breast care services, from screening and diagnostic mammograms to state-of-the-art cancer treatments and support groups. St. John’s Breast Center offers two screening locations and a mobile screening service. We screen more than 2,000 women a month.

  • St. John's offers minimally invasive breast biopsies (ultrasound guided and accredited stereotactic guided biopsies).

  • Surgical intervention, sentinel lymph node mapping, axillary node dissection, hormone therapy, chemotherapy, radiation therapy and reconstructive surgery are all treatment options available to patients diagnosed with breast cancer.

  • St. John's offers many breast cancer clinical trials through St. John’s Medical Research Program and Cancer Research for the Ozarks.

  • St. John's patients have access to a certified St. John’s cancer resource nurse.

  • St. John's technologists are certified in mammography.

  • St. John's offers patient and family educational/support classes through monthly support groups, programs such as Reach to Recovery, and referrals to services such as St. John’s lymphedema clinic, genetic counseling, nutritional and behavioral health services.

  • St. John’s Breast Center is certified by the American College of Surgeons. We also meet the certification requirements of the Mammography Quality and Standards Act and the American College of Radiology.
