Lights of Love celebration; announce new cancer resource center

St. John’s will host a holiday reception and lighting ceremony to honor and memorialize cancer patients and survivors at 6 p.m. Nov. 20 at St. John’s C.H. “Chub” O’Reilly Cancer Center, 2055 S. Fremont. Members of the C.H. “Chub” O’Reilly family will also announce plans for a new Cancer Resource Center, a service made possible thanks to a generous donation.

The Christmas tree-lighting ceremony will commemorate the start of the annual Lights of Love campaign, a fundraiser to assist St. John’s HospiceCare provide comfort and care to nearly 650 terminally ill patients and their families each year.

Support from donations to Lights of Love allow St. John’s to provide many essential services:

·         Personal supplies including lap robes, care baskets, Bibles and memory boxes for pediatric patients

·         Educational assistance and materials for caregivers

·         Start up funds for the creation of a teen volunteer program

·         Medical supplies including care pendant monitors and specialty medical equipment as needed

·         ‘Harps for the Heart’ – a music therapy program requested by many patients and families

St. John’s HospiceCare’s team of nurses, home health aides, social workers, chaplains, volunteers and physicians empower patients to live their final days with dignity and comfort.
