St. John’s Clinic Force for Good donates $54,000 to children’s charities

Aug. 29, 2005

St. John’s Clinic President Dr. Brian Mahaffey and Senior Vice President / Chief Operating Officer Donn Sorensen presented checks totaling $54,000 to CASA and The Child Advocacy Center last week.
The money was raised thanks to St. John’s Clinic Force for Good, an ongoing initiative that involves harnessing the good will, resources and leadership of St. John’s Clinic to benefit those in need. Force for Good is a fund within St John’s Foundation for Community Health.
More than $200,000 has been raised through this fund for local charities such as The Kitchen Medical Clinic and Springfield PTA Clothing Bank over the past two years.
St. John’s Clinic co-workers and departments are encouraged to raise money in their own areas, many of which did through bake sales, fundraising luncheons, casual days and drawings.
“As the leading Clinic in the region, we believe we have an opportunity and, in fact, an obligation to care for the needy in our community,” says Donn Sorensen, St. John’s Clinic Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer. “Because of the generosity of our co-workers and physicians, 1,200 children will receive the helping hands they need through CASA and The Child Advocacy Center.”
St. John’s Clinic consists of more than 460 physicians and 97 mid-level and allied health practitioners in Missouri and Arkansas. In total, St. John's Clinic provides medical services in over 70 offices in 35 communities covering 20,000 square miles. With approximately equal numbers of primary care and specialty physicians, St. John’s Clinic covers all major specialties with special emphasis on cardiology, pediatric subspecialties, orthopedics/sports medicine, urology, neurosurgery, oncology and radiology.
St. John’s Health System includes St. John’s Clinic, six regional hospitals and St. John’s Health Plans.
