Common Health Problems Associated With Travel in Developing Countries

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the following are some of the common health problems associated with travel to developing countries:

  • traveler's diarrhea (by far the most common risk - affecting 30 to 60 percent of international travelers)
  • enterotoxic E. coli diarrhea
  • malaria
  • acute febrile respiratory tract infections
  • hepatitis A
  • gonorrhea
  • animal bites with rabies risk
  • hepatitis B
  • typhoid fever
  • HIV infection
  • Legionella infection
  • cholera
  • meningococcal disease
