From the founding
of St. John’s in 1891, the Sisters of Mercy have relied on the
generosity of donors to provide medical services to the Ozarks.
Early accounts tell of city leaders inviting the Sisters to
Springfield to open the area’s first hospital. They were provided a
house on north Washington Avenue, but they did not find out until
some time after they opened Springfield’s first hospital that there
was a mortgage. Almost immediately the Sisters had to raise funds to
pay for the note.
That same reliance on philanthropy exists some 116 years later.
St. John’s
Foundation for Community Health was formed to assist in
achieving philanthropic goals so that St. John’s can fulfill its
mission to improve community health status while striving to relieve
suffering by addressing its causes.
We invite you to
explore the many ways you can give to St. John’s Children’s Hospital
- and help us provide hope, healing and the best care to the
children in our community. For more information on giving
