Community Benefit

Fulfilling our mission as a not-for-profit health care system means providing medical care at no cost for those unable to pay. It also means contributing important health services to our community and supporting other not-for-profit organizations that provide medical and social services.

We focus our community contributions and efforts in four key areas: charity care, community outreach services, health professionals’ education and research and civic contributions. We quantify those totals and report them to the community each year.

In addition, many people are not aware that St. John’s pays a significant amount of real estate and property tax each year and has one of the largest tax assessments in Greene County.

In short, St. John’s has been responding to our communities’ needs for more than a century, providing quality health care regardless of a patient’s ability to pay. However, doing that is more than a legal requirement of our not-for-profit status, its part of the Sisters of Mercy mission that our physicians and co-workers live every day.
